THANK YOU to all that commented. Remember that finding the perimeter of an object is finding the distance around that object. In addition, only terms that have similar variables can be combined.
Example 1: y + y + y = 3y.
Example 2: xy + xy + y^2 + xy + 1 + 1 + 1 + y^2 = 2y^2 + 3xy + 3
