ALGEBRA: Three Methods of Factoring Quadratics

"Box" Method Without Factoring First

"Box" Method With Factoring First

"Differences of Squares"
Example:  x2 – 4 = (x – 2)(x + 2)

"Removing Common Factors" or "GCF"  "GREATEST COMMON FACTOR"

Example:  2x2 + 4x

Notice that each term has a factor of 2x, so we can rewrite it as:
2x2 + 4x = 2x(x + 2)

Student creation of logo. Paper and pencil works!

Pre Algebra Individual Quiz

Picture 1:  Find the measurement of the tall tree (x) based on the picture below.

Picture 2:  Find the measurement of the tall jar (x) from the picture below.

Algebra 7-111

What are the equations of the lines?  Use an organizational method to report the equation for EVERY line that exists in this logo.  One idea would be to take a picture of this and embed it into the WHITEboard app.  This would allow you to label each line for your use.  BE CREATIVE:  You may have another way to organize the information-DO IT!

AFTER you complete this activity, answer the following questions on your professional blog! (POSTEROUS)
LABEL YOUR POST:  7-111: Finding Equations from Graphs
1.  How many total equations should you have for this logo?
2.  Describe the challenges that you experienced while completing this activity?
3.  What was your strategy for finding the equations AND your organization of equations.

MC 108

After you have determined that your graph looks like the one above, (make corrections if you need to!) click on the link below to answer the questions.  You will be analyzing the graph.
