THE SAINT LOUIS GATEWAY ARCH

The Background...

Riding Up and Visiting:

More Details...
The Saint Louis Gateway Arch has a shape much like a (1)___________________.  Suppose the x and y represent distances in feet and the origin is the point on the ground directly below the arch's apex.

The Task...

Write the formula in standard form (2) ____________________ and find the vertex (3) ______________
of the arch.  Along with that, find the y intercept (4)____________________ and both of the x intercepts

Algebra 8-84 b

1. Find x intercepts
2. Set them to Zero using Zero Product Property.
3. Find the factored quantities.
4. Insert your x coordinate from the height into your factored quantities. Both should equal the same number.
5. The number obtained after subtracting is the GCF that needs to be outside of the two quantities.

ALGEBRA: 8.2.4 Worksheet - Graphing Parabolas

To help in mastering this concept, please complete the problems found on THIS LINK.

HINT:  To find the VERTEX, find the LINE OF SYMMETRY (the exact 1/2 way point on the x-axis) in the parabola.  Insert that x axis point into your original equation and you will find the y.  This y becomes your vertex point!
